Strasbourg, France

Wow!  What an eventful last couple of days. First, I was chewed out by a French, blind man.  I said I was sorry for kicking his cane out of his hand while getting off the tram, what else does he want?  I’m not sure he understood my apology. He had me so flustered I think I mixed in a little German, Spanish and English with the broken French, but it was truly sincere. :-)

Second, we visited the Cathedral (Amazing!) and then Lindsey stopped at a small ice cream shop for a treat.  While trying to fumble with her coins and pay, her entire double scoop of chocolate and banana tumbled to the ground and on the way left a trail of ice cream on the shop owners clean glass case and her white jacket.  The shopkeeper showed his disgust (mumbled something in French), totally stopped serving the line; went back to get the gear to clean up the mess she made. He proceeded to clean his glass case until it sparkled.  Keep in mind Lindsey is standing there with about 8 people behind her waiting to be served.  He takes his time, cleans the case and then casually goes back and makes Lindsey another ice cream.  I was outside the shop watching and laughing I must confess I thought it was quite funny and she did too After she got away from the angry Frenchman.  Whew! Another close call with the angry French servers of  France.  But then Lindsey did give him cause to be angry.

Third, and finally to top off our day, we went to the hotel to discover they did not have our reservation.  OMG!  Were we really going to have to sleep on the park bench?  We got on the Wi Fi (pronounced Wee Fee here) and after a few hours and several tram trips we found what I think was the LAST room available in Strasbourg.  I don’t know where all of these people came from. I was certain that when I booked this trip to Europe it was just me and Lindsey suppose to be on vacation.  I think all of Germany had the same idea - “Let’s go to Strasbourg! They have everything in French AND German”.

All ended well, the blind man got on his way with no injuries, the others FINALLY got served ice cream and we ended up with a small apartment with a full kitchen where we made our own dinner of wonderful chicken pate (we called in potted meat when I was a poor kid in Leander, Tx)  bread, cheese, fruit (market on the corner), port, and coffee.  Ahhh….the trials and tribulations of travel.

Today: We will move over to the apartment.  I got ahead of myself in the previous blog ….the days tend to run together and time has very little meaning when you are away from the demands of work, school, etc.
