Obernai, France

Obernai is a picturesque French Village.  There was no need to buy post cards; my pictures look just like them!  Well, almost. The architecture has a very heavy German flair with a hint of  Frenchness, if that makes any sense.  We arrived very early and the town was still asleep.  That made it extra nice to enjoy the village for a couple of hours before the onslaught of tourist.  When I come back to the Alsace region, I would  take the time to take a short train trip out of Strasbourg and make this my home base.  I would get everything I needed at half the price and 1/10th of the  people.  My kind of place.

Being Sunday, the church bells rang throughout the village to call the followers to church.  As soon as the bells started, the villagers popped out of their homes and began their casual stroll toward the bells. It resembled a line of ants marching home. Once the bells stopped ringing and the last person was inside, the doorkeeper shut the door to begin service. It was nice to sit on the churchyard bench and watch this unfold.

We began our trip early this morning with a short walk to the tram stop. We heard a home or fire alarm going off.  Lindsey said "Sure is early to be having a fire alarm go off".  We got to Obernai and once again we heard another alarm going off and Lindsey commented on that France sure does have a lot of house/burglar alarms going off.  After a very enjoyable and exhausting day in Obernai we were walking home from the tram and both of us were craving a little nap.  As soon as we turned the corner on our street we heard the fire/burglar alarm going off.  "I sure hope that's going to stop soon!" Lindsey said.  As we got closer to the apartment the alarm was sounding more like it was in our apartment.  We popped in and started trying to find where the alarm sound was coming from.  Lindsey was walking into different areas trying to find the sound.  She popped  into the bathroom and put her ear against the shower wall "It's coming from the other side of this wall mom, I hope it stops soon".  She then walked into the main part of the apartment and put her handbag up to her ear and  said "It's coming from  my purse!!"  I had set a wake up alarm on her iTouch and it was going off periodically during the day!  We had a great laugh.
