A Night in Strasbourg

I ventured out of the apartment alone tonight and left Lindsey watching a movie.  I walked down the Grand Rue and landed at a nice little café at the base of the cathedral. I had to tilt my head back as far as possible to see the top.  The entire building is an aged dark brown with the exception of the Angel’s wings who stood guard over the entrance. They were a bright green like a weathered copper.  Very striking.   I sipped on a chilled glass of  red wine (a first! - chilled RED wine) and watched the people walk by.  Some were slowly licking ice cream or grazing on sandwiches that peaked out of  little bags they held in one hand. Some were just strolling slowly,  holding hands, looking at the sites and watching the tourist (me).  I took my time to get back to the apartment and stopped to buy Lindsey more French cheese and bread.  I’m not sure she would survive a day without them. At least she has me believing that.

Tomorrow we visit Obernai, France. It’s a day trip out of Strasbourg and recommended by a French couple we chatted with at the local café.

Observations:  Here are a few things I’ve noticed here in Strasbourg, France.
  • Straight men (very obvious) carry shoulder bags and wear Capri’s with no hesitations.
  • Scarves are worn by everyone (men and women); no matter the weather.  It is the staple to most outfits and I think there are at least 100 ways to wear them.  I have mastered 2 of them!
  • Men in business suits and women in high heels ride bikes wherever they need to go.
  • Public display of affection (PDA) is Everywhere…..and a lot!  You can observe it while waiting for the tram, standing in line at the market, or just queuing for an ice cream.
More to come and the trip progresses and the locations change!
